Mentorship & Teaching

I love to help writers to find their voice and, in the process, confidence in the story they want to tell. I’m keen to work with anyone who doesn’t feel like their voice and writing style fit the usual publishing curriculum and with authors who write across languages. As a publishing professional and creative writing mentor, I’ve experience working across a wide range of books, from literary fiction, upmarket and book club reads to women’s commercial fiction. I’m also a food writer and keen non-fiction reader, and I enjoy working on non-fiction proposals greatly. See below for more details about how we can work together.

I offer my services in person in Glasgow and/or over (video) calls. Please contact me to enquire about availability. I apply reduced rates for writers who are in financial need; simply add *WriterPal* to the subject line when you write to me, no questions asked.

I’m happy to run day-long and longterm group workshops. If you’re from an organisation and looking to work with me, feel free to email me to discuss more.

You can email me at margaux[at]margauxvialleron.com.

Mentorship

I offer mentorships to writers for two, four, six or twelve hours taken in either 1- or 2-hour slots. Please contact me for rates and to discuss what a mentorship would look like – a blend of motivation, editorial feedback, accountability and brainstorm, depending on where you’re at with your writing project(s).

I specialise in helping authors to find their voice and I’m particularly keen to mentor writers who work across (and play with) languages. For more information about my writing, see my about page. Before switching to freelance, I worked as a Translation Rights Agent for a London-based literary agency for eight years, where I read, gave feedback and pitched manuscripts, and I can help with preparing a package for submission to agents.

If you’ve been looking for someone to help you get started or unblock a project, get in touch and we’ll take it from there. When you write to me, it’d be helpful to know more about you and what you’re after with this mentorship, whether it’s general guidance or you’ve a specific project in mind (I can integrate a manuscript or proposal assessment as part of the mentorship programme).

French classes

I’m French and I teach le français!

I’m passionate about language and I believe that each student learns differently. I can offer a broad range of teaching methods, from formal, grammatical learning to the more conversational, interests-based approach, so get in touch to discuss what would suit you best.

I have experience teaching children and adults and have obtained a certificate to teach French as a second language from the Alliance Française. French is my native language.
